Teathered shooting

Here is a shot of the software in action. How fun is this. I got it working about a year ago and then it stopped working for me. Tonight I thought I would try and get it to work again. Bingo, first try and we were in business. For those of you new to the idea it works like this.

You take a pc/USB cable that runs from your camera to your PC. You can now use your computer as your camera. Everything is open to your disposal on your computer. You can change ISO, Shutter speed, Modes, F-stop, Brightness contrast, you name it you can do it. Everything you could do holding your camera you can do with the computer. So some of you are asking why would I want to do this? Well for one your screen chimpping just got a whole lot bigger. For those of you that don't know the term "chimpping" is looking at your images in the LCD screen on the back of your camera. Now you have a bigger screen to see the results.

Another reason is now you are not hidden behind this big black box of the viewfinder. If you shoot kids then you can become more personal and not this big black mysterious box. Pentax comes with the software, I believe cannon has it for a free dl as well. Nikon has it but I think at a cost--Although my buddy Adam dl a script to get it to work with his Mac with his Nikon d700.

103 fever

She had her ups and downs today. This was an up hour. She even posed from me and did not run and hide when I pulled the camera out. Her fever seemed to be better as the day went on. Today was our Christmas tree cut but had to pospone it for next weekend.

First day of Christmas

My wife and I normally get our tree the day after Thanksgiving. She takes out the christmas decorations and gets in the holiday spirit. The small lit christmas tree makes a fun shot. The shot on the left is taken out of focus. The one on the right is taken with a 1 second exposure with onboard flash used to freeze the shot and then drag the shutter and move the camera while the frame is being exposed. The shots were then combined in Photoshop cs4.

Happy Thanksgiving

We saw the new digs of our niece Camden. Nice work done by the remodeling crew. My daughter seemed to like it as well as she ran the house like she lived there.

New Gig?

Here are some poster prints I just had made. I am not sure which one I will go with. I ask you my loyal 2 viewers, or there abouts, to vote on one or the other. I will also ask my participants in my photoshop classes I will be teaching on Monday and Tue. I favor one over the other but both could use a bit of tweeking. But isn't this always the case.

Sick again

I thought my family was just sick. All 3 of us are a bit under the weather. The wife more so than the rest of us. Lets get it out of our system now before Thanksgiving. My daughter was feeling up to her first swim lesson since Aug. You could really tell she had been out of the water for a few months.

Red Roses

Kate just got thise on Wed night. 4 days later they are starting to wilt. I thought I would get one last close up before the morning. I think they may not make it when the sun comes up on Monday. Talking about not making it, my buddy Tim had a twinkie he was shooting, I wonder what ever happened to his experiment. I hope he didn't eat it.

Christmas Island

United Nations!!!! I love it!!!!! Please view the video, these kids deserve the attention. In fact I did not even do the video, by Bro-in-law did it, Mr Hamilton ;) Who by the way gets all the credit for the 3 videos done in this short year long Ballet thingy.
They couldn't have picked a better song for this recital. She She and I are the biggest Jimmy Buffett fans in the USA. In fact I remember when the song was announced at a practice. I got a phone call and she said, listen to this....I LOL. These girls did a great job and Miss Sue was strict but fair with these kids. My wife and I, as educators, appreciate this as we feel this is an important area kids need to respond to. I can get on my horse here and say there are too many "soft structures" out there, (and you know who you are) but I won't...did I just say that ;)

Fun was had by all and these girls seemed to bond. Cora and Katherine seem to have a lot of fun together and the parents get along as well. This may very well be a life long friendship. a final thought or close anyway... The parents in this group were very friendly and loving to their kids, Miss Sue did a great job of keeping the kids on task. Maybe we will see the same families in future recital. Rock on Bubba!!!

ABOUT THE NIGHT

I got there an hour and 15 min early, can you say I was determined to get a front row seat. I was the first one there by 20 min. My wife says I am the guy to take with you to a festival seating concert. The Gorge in George, Wa was a prime example. I was the first one in the arena for the JB concert in the early 90's. Getting back to the evening, the nice thing was I could go see some of the early show that started at 6:15. Pretty filthy stuff (A jarvis-ism as in Chase Jarvis)

Tonight's shot:

This shot was taken with my 50mm lens. A pano of 3 shots. I knew, from the other night's practice, a 50mm was going to be tight, meaning I would fill the frame with every click. I however also knew lighting was going to be an issue so there was a give and take here. I have learned in doing this for a fair bit that a photog thinks ahead and trys his/her best to problem solve before the first click. I look up to my Buddy Eric as he has telepathically taught me this ;) I always think to myself, what would Eric do....no Bull, I really do. I love his rational (and others as well) GET AS MUCH RIGHT IN THE CAMERA TO START WITH.

My 50mm was a super fast f1.4 lens which would result in stop action. Obviously the drawback is I filled the frame with every click, and sitting in the front row made it more "in your face". A compromise was taken. THe nice thing was, I thought ahead, brought 2 camera bodies with me and strapped on my 28.75 2.8 on the other body. I must have been the interesting site in the room, switching back and forth, but a very proud Dadda.

Enjoy the shot, Nov. 18th has come and gone, what is to come in the next 43 days?
A lengthy post, much longer than the Tue 200 but Grandma would appreciate the time spend tonight.

Math anyone

Daughter worked on math this week. Amazing how sponge-like kids can be. Here are the math chips she used while creating patterns.

My Dad made this for me a few years ago. Nice piece of DIY for my flash. I can pretty much clamp it to a tabletop, doorjam, tree limb.

You want a piece of me???

Friends yesterday, enemies today? A true stare down. My daughter had bumps on her body that concerned us last night. Midnight rolled around and my wife got up to check on her. She had hives all over her body. I Took her to the doctor today and had her looked at. All is good but not much sleep last night and our day care was closed so we took in her best friend. They had a blast except for this showdown at high noon. Bring it on!!!

Blurred vision

I got into dress rehearsal tonight to see the lighting being used for the recital next week. I played with flash/no flash and came away with a pair of lucky shots. These two shots were taken about 5 min apart. My tripod was my best friend tonight. Only thing I wish I could change was the blur would have been the lag and not the lead. Same 4 girls in both shots. One shot taken with a flash, one taken without.

I may never walk this way again

The Trophy. I lost my series with Dave 4 games to zero and now am no longer the defending champ. Winning 2 of the last 3 years and to get this close. I may never walk this way again and I could be shipping this ball to Fircrest, Wa or back to the east coast. Good Luck Dave. My fingers are crossed for you. Is this the last time I will ever see this thing? IT took 10 years to get it in my hot little hands.

Revisting refraction. Why is it that when you put water in a glass and you look through it the background flips to the other side. This time I went the classic black and white.

Batten down the hatches

Time to winterize the cabin. I think I broke my kneecap, seriously. I tripped over the bulkhead and my knee landed right on a stone step. I am hoping ice will take care of the injury. Either Ice or my sister-in-laws home cooking. On the way home we called and she invited us over for dinner. Thank you Mary. 7 hours after we left our house we landed at the Allen's for dinner. Very nice way to end a tough day.

Weather Station

A new weather station on King 5 opened this fall. Here it is working overtime in the wind and rain. Nasty, nasty, nasty...They let me on the roof but it was so wet and rainy I made it as far as the door. Nice fall colors, and rain to boot.

365 day time stamp

For most of the 300-some-odd days to this point it has been a photo shoot. (308 days into the year?)What could I come up with that would be creative. Some days good, some days not so good. Others have been a time stamp. What happened that day. Days that come to mind, June 26th is the one that comes to mind first. Other time stamp days, Got lemonade, The Airport, and I'm real sick....just to name a few. Today is another day. I am playing my buddy Dave in our fantasy Baseball league tonight. We will kick off the final 4 in about 10 min. He shoudl dominate me as I was the worst team in the playoffs. I will let you know How the first 2 games panned out tomorrow. Here is my lineup.

Are our children going deaf?

I love music, I loved my Sony mp3 player 10-12 years ago. For some reason I was never an iPod guy. Maybe because of the price and the bulkiness of the design. My daughter wanted a walkman and I had to put my foot down and say NO, I will not go back 8-10 years in the techo-age and get a walkman. So here we have it, the bulky iPod. We will do our best to keep a lid on the volume. Can you say NO more Hanna in the car now :) I know they come in slimmed down versions of this high tech music and as they say, they have come a long way baby...
