colors day 120

Just about 1/3 of the way through the year. I have taken at least a shot a day and am on track to get my project done. I didn't realize how tough this ws going to be when I presented this to my buddy Eric. Most of the time I am excited to create something fun but it seems like this past week I have been real tired and its been a struggle to get a set together. My daughter has really got exited about drawing and color pencils and I got this idea from Alan and his shot on day 117. Mine is not as colorful as time was limited today. I have some other ideas but will visit later in the year.

Vinyl

Released my Sophomore year in College, 1979. What was your favorite hit on this platinum gem? Take the Long way home? Breakfast in America? Goodbye Stranger? Logical Song or another one of many on this fine album. I was looking for something else to shoot and while I was digging in the closet I ran across my collection of Classic hits. I decided on this cover and I enhance the lighting on the right with a flash of my own.

bagels and cream cheese

I took my daughter to the doctor today and of course we get in there and as soon as we step into the doctors office she gets chipper, headache is gone, no sore throat, no fever ears are fine etc... and doc gives her a checkup and can find nothing wrong. So on the way home I offer to stop at Dairy Queen and buy her an ice cream and she turns it down and asks if we can stop at Fred Meyer for bagels and strawberry cream cheese. She's THREE!!!! Turning down ice cream at three? Well you guessed it, as soon as we get home the headache is back, fever spikes back to 104. Real weird!!!! We did put her down tonight with no signs of a fever though. Sigh....

Long day

104 degree temp. It seems like my daughter has had a fever more times this year than has been well. The bug has hit her hard once again and to boot we had to get up at 2:30am and start our trek back home (2:30am seattle time). We were stuck on the runway in Denver for an hour waiting for the plane to be de-iced and delayed our trip an hour or so. She stayed awake all day until about an hour ago. I thought this might be a great capture for the day.

First Melon of the Season

Nothing better than a good fresh watermelon. I loved this fruit as a child. I love it more as an adult. I could mow through half a melon in one sitting. I want to know what the top secret Recipies are though?

I won a car, really...

I opened my mail when I got home tonight and I won a car. How exciting is that!!! Don't you hate junk mail!!! Adding to the landfill. I tried a technique I did over the Christmas Holidays in a flash/zoom zoom (as Penny says to BOLT). IF you have not seen this movie, you owe it to yourself to rent it or find your nearest niece and ask to borrow the DVD from her. My daughter loves this DVD!!!! I took the picture with a flash and zoomed in at 1.6 seconds to allow for the blur. I cool technique that I challenge those 3 people that read my blog to try. (you know who you are ;) ) Fun to play with this type shot.

That one particular harbour...

...as Jimmy Buffett once said. What a great vacation this turned out to be. Can you guess what Island this is? One of our all time favorite beaches was located on this Island, look close and in the southwest corner a village called Boqueron. Paradise I tell ya...and I lost our hotel key in the waters in the bay. We were glad we didn't lose the car key. Hints: Mt CADENA is located here as well as LA Cadena Mt range.

I would have loved this book

As I kid in Junior High I would have loved this book. Artificial Turf for the binding, how cool would that have been back in the 70's. Off camera softbox/speedlight. Middle school library, just before my Photoshop class.

does anybody really know what time it is.

Sung by Chicago in the late 70's or early 80's. I have my new softbox for my speedlight and am very pleased with the results. Defuses and lightens the area nicely. no real hotspots.

Big night number 2

My daugther set out the carrots, our letters, and water for the Easter Bunny just before bedtime. I really believe she is more excited about the bunny than she was Mr. Claus.

The big night

Our tradition the Friday before Easter. My wife sets up the dye and eggs, my daughter comes over and plays in the water and vinegar and I take the pictures. I was a little surprized that f4 gave me this narrow o DOF. Not sure why it surprized me so much? Her favorite egg was was the green one.

One of the last classes

This building will be torn down at the end of the school year. Which reminds me, I need to shoot their lockers before descruction day. They are building a new school in the back fourty and the staff is looking forward, to some extent, the new building. This is one of the last tech classes to be taught in this building, well next week is the last one on outlook. The teachers are all doing a grand job of following directions and listening to an atomic learning tutorial. Don't they all look good in fisheye?

Category this week 1x3 or 3x1

Got up early this morning to catch the sunrise at the beach. Of course spring break ended today, the best day weather wise, of our break. Beautiful sunrise, and it was still a bit cold outside. No tulips yet, they say by this time next week the fields will be full of them.

My 1x3 shot was of my nephew Payne, giving me his new, ugly look, as he calls it.

Wishing Rock

I wish for a cupcake maker.
She was walking the beach and found a wishing rock. She has wanted a cupcake maker for about a year now. The bad thing is she can't eat eggs and the only way to make these is with eggs.

got the shower fixed

I was heading to McLendons Hardware this morning to get parts to fix our shower. On the way I talked to my mom on the phone, then my sweetie called me and we have once again changed our mind and we will make it to our cabin this week after all. So, I got out of the car and walked into the hardware palace with my daughter I started thinking of a shot for today. And if you are a guy or gal that like hardware stores, this is the hardware stores of all hardware stores, thus the PALACE. Getting back to my shot for the day, I have a few ideas in the bag, but since I was going to be home when it was daylight out I decided to go with this one. After fixing the shower I came down stairs to set this shot up.

Taking pictures of water has always interested me. I will try this a few more times before the year is over. I wanted to try this with some daylight so I took this shot about noon today. Here is my setup for the shot and took a few of ordinary household items to help me out. I put a lid to a pot in the sink to help reflect any light that made its way down into the sink. I used a everyday place mat (blue) as my background. I attached my pocket wizard and 1/8 power on the speedlight and a medicine syringe that we use for tylenol for my daughter. Foam core camera right and sat my camera on a tripod. I started with a remote and Autofocus, but soon changed to manual focus and pressed the shutter. I like the lighting but have other ideas for the next water shot. I had my SS set at 1/160 but my reaction time to capture the drops was off today, Too much coffee perhaps? So I slowed it down to 1/125 and was able to get more drops as well as more of the drop. I took 50 or so exposures, can you imagine doing that in the film days? I was so tight with my shots back then, now it's that "throw away world". Well not literally throw away when it comes to digital, but ya'll know what I mean. But to burn through a roll of 100 ASA 24 exposure then getting them developed or as my dad use to do, develop them yourself. I like doing DIY stuff and grubbing the place mat and lid was nice.
