Refraction revisited

Adam and I gave homework to our photography students last Monday. One of the shot assignments was refraction. Adam and I will be taking our shots as well. Here is my setup and my shot. I will do this again and try another setup. Our part 2 class is on Tue. We will introduce Photoshop along with review of photography ins and outs.

First day of soccer

This shot of the pink bycycle would make my daugher envious of the transportation. A basket of flowers, a horn, and the color pink would send her over the top.
We attended her first Soccer practice and I think we found her passion. Joy for all.

One thing teachers can't live w/o

Coffee. My wife is a walking advertisement. We both had a long day today. Tomorrow is Friday and we will use the weekend for a restful re-cooperation. Shot with the fisheye and a 30 second exposure. If you look close you can see the knob of the door behind me in the middle of my forehead.

Demands attention

WOW. Naomi the swim instuctor who must be all of 21 has these 5 year olds rapped around her finger. Do any of these gals even darn take their eyes off the instructor in fear of being tossed from the pool. I think not!!! She did a great job with these kids and from what I hear has come a long way with intruction....good for you girl!!!!! We as parents think so highly of the Federal Way swim porgram and how they progress through the different stages of lessons. We need more time in the week to continue. Soccer is next.
70-200 and the 2nd shot is with my fisheye lens. This lens was used in the pool shot above. I love the zoom to f-stop ratio.

Rose and Adam

Using my fisheye I walked around taking shots of the participants. Here I have Adam my partner in crime talking technique to Roselee, my fellow pentaxian. We kicked off the first ever Once upon a photo, a DSLR/Photoshop/project based class. I added a bit of lens vignette to my shot.

Merry go round

My shot for the day was with my fisheye at 11mm. Our adventure today had nothing to do with my shot. My daughter attended her first photo gallery. Gina Rodgers was the photographer and her captures of Iran were outstanding. We enjoyed looking at her images and my daughter enjoyed her cookies and juice.

Allowance

Life is simple

We have turned the corner. My daughter does chores, if she remembers. We started easy. She helps to set the table for dinner, makes her bed and picks up her toys. In exchange, we give her the bill on Saturday morning. We forgot to give it to her last week so my wife handed it to her tonight. My little one left it on the counter as she has not realized the value of a dollar, or lack there of...not sure which is the case yet. They are so innocent at this age. I had a great night with her, she sat on my lap and we played http://www.starfall.com/ on the computer. WOW Technology with a 5 year old. Amazing!!!

Pool Time

Five girls all trying to find there way in life. In various sizes and shapes, personalities and lifestyles, education and hobbies. They all gather here twice a week to figure out that swimming from one end to the other is the start of the cycle of life. It never ends, motion and movement for these gals will only get more complicated as they get older. They are enjoying the fun and freedom now, a very uncomplicated life for these young people. They are learning early, either sink or swim...do you really only have 2 options?

Smoke and mirrors

Well really only mirrors. A true Strobist one light setup!!!! A lot of patience and a steady hand while holding the flash light. I used the gum tape and a 1.99 pack of assorted sized mirrors I bought at Michaels. The setup was easier than first thought. Finding the right spot for the 3 coins and pushing the mirrors around on the gum tape as it is very flexable made it easy. The steady hand of holding the flashlight was the tough part. I have another way I will do this next time I try it. I lit the mirrors with the flashlight thus the reflection bounced back and lit the coins. A fun activity.
Also pictured is the setup of the mirrors. If you are having trouble finding the 3 mirrors they are taped to the back of the chair.
And my 3rd day of my 10-17 fisheye shots. Sitting down after shooting my mirror shot. Those of you following my blog, it was fun trying this and rather easy with the gum tape. The puddy feel of the tape made it easy to adjust the mirrors.

Setting up her composition

She specifically grabbed my attention to show her how to focus her camera. So cute she was this morning. The 2nd shot was at the park today. I must have been 60 degrees or there abouts.

Using the flashlight

I used yesterdays prop to light my shots tonight. The shot was lit by that small light. It did a pretty good job of lighting tonights props.

Let there be light

I went into the garage to work on a honey dew this evening. I needed a flash light. Guess what? MY daughter was playing with the basket of flashlights last week. She left them all on. Guess what again? All flashlights, dead dead dead. Luckily I had one stashed and was in working order. So I used this small LED that gives out a powerful punch for the size. My little one and I had a talk after all was said and done. We discussed the importance of turning things off.

Sub

My daughters first experience with a substitute teacher. The regular swim teacher was sick and this poor guy had 5 girls he had never met. I tell ya, it was like hearding kittens. He did the best he could but the girls gave him a run for his money. Needless to say we had a long talk with our little one after the lesson.

85% of my 2009 shots

I am guessing but I shot most of this past years shots with this lens. I love it and the range is just about right. It's my 28-75 2.8 Tamron. One drawback is it is a rather long, heavy lens. Shot with my rig holder to create the star effect, pictured tomorrow.
